Stresa: The Alpine Gardens | |||
|
The Alpine Gardens are situated in a wonderful position overlooking Lake Maggiore. You can reach the Alpine gardens by taking the Stresa - Mottarone cable car from Stresa Lido and alighting after 10 minutes at the first stop. The Alpine Gardens are just 300m from the cable car station.
The gardens were created in 1934 by Igino Ambrosiani and Giuseppe Rossi and specialise in sub-Alpine and Alpine plants. These include campanula, wormwood, herbaceous thistles and dianthus.
The gardens cover an area of 431,000 square feet and boast a unique natural balcony with stunning views across the lake.
To the east side of the gardens is a nature trail through the woods and shrubs where you can admire such species as mountain acer, white birch, wild beech, laburnum and ash.
