Macugnaga and Mount Rosa | ||
|
The journey to Macugnaga is a truly spectacular drive up the Anzasca Valley, plunged between the rugged mountains, where the quaint old houses of the Walser people cling to the cliffs. Macugnaga nestles in the foothills of the Monte Rosa which at 15,200ft is one of the biggest peaks in the Alps. The village itself is a cluster of typical alpine buildings, centring on the the pretty flower filled main square, with views of the Alps and mountain pasture wherever you turn. Next to the old church is an ancient lime (tilia) tree where Walser people from the surrounding valleys used to come and meet. Take the chance to feel on top of the world with an unforgettable journey in the Belvedere Chairlift up the great Monte Rosa to view the Alps and the Belvedere Glacier.
