The Borromean Islands

If you are visiting Stresa for just one day then you must visit the Borromean Islands. A one day Rover Ticket gives you unlimited access to the ferries for the whole day and enables you to visit Isola Madre, Isola Pescatori (a great place to stop at lunchtime) and Isola Bella. You can also get joint tickets for entering Isola Madre and the Palace and Gardens on Isola Bella.

The Lake Maggiore Express

After visiting the Borromean Islands on day one, why not take a ride on the Lake Maggiore Express? A round trip by narrow gauge railway and ferry, it is a great way to see the surrounding countryside, the Swiss part of the lake and other lakeside towns. Our top tip is to buy the two day ticket which covers your ferries for visiting the Borromean Islands and the Lake Maggiore Express round trip.

The Stresa - Mottarone Cable Car

On your third day the Stresa to Mottarone cable car is a great way to see Lake Maggiore from a new perspective! The cable car leaves from Stresa Lido and, in two stages, takes you to the top of Mottarone. The Alpine Gardens at the half-way stage are included in a return ticket and are well worth a visit for the flora and the wonderful views. If you are feeling active there are also walking routes around Mottarone.
